— Constance
J. "Connie", 75, and Larry R., 72, Cummings, of Route 3, Watertown,
died in an automobile accident Friday, Oct. 7, in Oswego County.
Calling hours for the couple will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the funeral
home with Rev. Steven Murray, Holy Family Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Sanford Corners Cemetery, Calcium.
Connie was born in July 20, 1936, in Watertown, the daughter of John
and Esther Dunlava Hughes, she graduated from Watertown High School.
A marriage to Donald Sayyea in 1957 ended in divorce.
On April 26, 1968, she married Larry at Holy Family Church with
Msgr. William J. Argy officiating.
She was a secretary for Boy Scouts of America, Watertown. She had
attended Holy Family Church. She was an avid weaver and spinner,
taught spinning for the Credo Foundation with her best friend Joan
Kimmis, attended many craft fairs, and was a member of the Spinning
and Weaving Guild. She also enjoyed gardening and loved her cats.
Larry was born in Watertown on Aug. 27, 1939, in Watertown, son of
Charles J. and Marion E. Huntington Cummings, and he graduated from
Watertown High School.
He entered the Army on Nov. 25, 1957, where he was an aircraft
mechanic. On Nov. 23, 1960, he was honorably discharged from active
duty. He worked for the Watertown Water Dept. for about thirty
years.
Larry also attended Holy Family Church, was a Boy Scout Leader for
over 30 yrs, and a member of VFW Post 1400. He loved attending
fairs, parades, farmer's markets, and firework displays.
He enjoyed collecting anything John Deere and puttering around the
house.
They are survived by Connie's daughter and her husband, Bonnie S.
and John Rutledge, Watertown, their grandchildren, Rachel and Jon
Susice, Jessica Combs, Victoria Combs, and John Combs, Jr., and
Connie's two great-grandchildren, Sierra and Dylan Susice. Connie is
also survived by her two brothers and their wives, James and Sue
Hughes and Thomas and Paula Hughes, all of Rochester. Larry is
survived by his sister and her husband, Ann and James Richmond,
Ellisburg. They also have several nieces, nephews, and cousins
surviving.
Larry's brother, Richard C. Cummings, died in 1932.
Donations in their names may be made to the Credo Foundation or Boy
Scouts of America.
