CLAYTON, N.Y. Gary G. Schleher, 74, Clayton, passed away Thursday, July 28, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown,

where he had been a patient since July 16.

Calling hours will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton. The funeral service will be 1 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Clayton United Methodist Church with Pastor Donald Briant and Rev. D. L. Marshall officiating. Burial will be in

St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Born June 30, 1937, in Clayton, son of George and Roxie Comins Schleher, he graduated in 1957 from Clayton High School. He joined the US Naval Reserve on March 1, 1955, and served until April 4, 1967.

He married Alvera J. Dano O'Hara on April 9, 1966, at Clayton United Methodist Church with Rev. Dean Shaw officiating. Mrs. Schleher died April 9, 1993.

In his early years, he had been a tour guide on Clayton Boat Lines, worked in Mercier's Shipyard, and was a pinsetter at Pa Burr's Bowling Alley. He worked for Graphic Controls for 40 years, and retired as a printing press operator. After his retirement, he was a caretaker and did lawn care on Calumet Island.

He had been a member of the Sons of the American Legion and later American Legion Post 821 in Clayton, and was a former member of the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Schleher enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling, bowling, and loved classic cars.

Surviving are four children, Debbie J. O'Hara Staie and husband, Dennis C., Theresa, Cindy L. O'Hara, Fla., Keith A. O'Hara and wife, Caroline A., Phoenix, Ariz., and Georgette A. Schleher Jones and husband, Terry M., Clayton; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three siblings, Daniel P. Schleher and wife, Linda, and John M. Schleher and companion, Janet Ferguson, all of Clayton, and Linda M. Schleher Faust Loomis and husband, Maurice, Redwood; two aunts, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
